Disability Studies |
Affiliation: Ryerson University Disability Studies
More traditional approaches to disability focus on ways to rehabilitate or "fix" people with disabilities. In Disability Studies we focus on society's definition and response to disability. We explore the social context and experiences of people with disabilities. We draw from the work of scholars, artists and activists and the direct experiences of our students. This unique approach equips our graduates to take leadership roles in community-based agencies, advocacy roles in the disability movement, or to continue their studies at an advanced level.
